Skin type: dehydrated, oily
In the Himalayan Mountain Ranges, there are treasure troves of a wonderful pink-colored salt. This pink salt has recently garnered a lot of attention from health-enthusiasts because of a large number of benefits that it offers.
This pink salt is said to be the purest kind of salt we can find in the world today. This is because it is free from the toxins and pollutants that sea-salt tends to collect, and, unlike refined salt, it is bursting with many minerals and trace elements which optimize our bodies on a molecular level.
There are no limitations on how we can use the Himalayan pink salt. It can be used to season our everyday food like French fries. Himalayan salt is also being used to make salt lamps which purify the air around us when lit.
We went the extra mile and did some research of our own on how Himalayan salt can benefit the skin.
Salt scrubs are quite popular among health and beauty fanatics lately. Making these scrubs with Himalayan salt results in a very potent exfoliating agent which scrubs away the dead cells from your body and leaves your skin soft and smooth to the touch.
You can scrub your skin with this salt right after you get out of the bath, or you can make a scrub of your own! Just take some fine-grained pink salt, add coconut oil and any other essential oils of your choice to the mix and mix it till it forms a scrub with a slightly grainy consistency. Use it to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week.
Applying Himalayan salt to your skin is a great way to get rid of the toxins that make you look tired and aged. Using Himalayan salt in your food is also useful for getting rid of these toxins.
You can apply the salt on your skin in the form of a scrub which will remove these waste substances along with the dead skin, or you can add the salt to a face mask you are making with other skin-healing products.
Another way to detoxify your skin using Himalayan salts is by adding it to your bath water. Alternatively, you can also make bath salts using Epsom and Himalayan pink salt so you enjoy a deeper cleansing experience than you ever imagined!
Himalayan salt can act as a great cleanser to clear your skin of all the dirt and grime it has collected over time. For this, you need to add a good amount of the salt to a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Take steam from that pot, be careful to maintain some distance between your face and pot to avoid any harm.
Doing this will open up all the pores in your face and extract out the dirt that has accumulated inside. Do this for 10-15 minutes and discard the salted water. Remember to ice your face right after this so your pores can close up again without collecting any more dirt from the environment.
Reduces Puffiness in Eyes
Make a saturated salt solution with the Himalayan salt and filtered water. Soak cotton pads in the solution and place them on your closed eyes. This will reduce the puffiness under your eyes and will impart a healthy glow to your face.
Decreases Fine Lines and Wrinkles
When we go a long time without giving time to our skin, we notice that subtle signs of aging start to appear. This is because free radicals and other substances in the air around us react with the surface of our skin and makes our skin look tired. Applying Himalayan salt on your skin as a mask, as a scrub, or a steaming agent has an antioxidant like effect on your face. This helps you get rid of fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and any other signs of dull and aged skin.
Acne occurs when bacteria find their way into our pores through environmental dirt and cause breakouts of pimples by making our skin inflamed. We have already seen how Himalayan sea salt helps us clean out our pores so that is one cause of inflammation it takes care of.
Other than that, Himalayan salt also acts as an antibacterial and an antiseptic agent. Because of this, it kills the bacteria residing inside the pores of our skin which stopped pimples from breaking out on our face.
The pink salt is also a very popular and potent deodorant and antiperspirant. It will absorb the sweat from your skin (much like the way ordinary sea salt absorbs toxins) and stops body odors from emanating from you. The salt does not have any odor of its own but you can add it when you make this super-easy DIY Himalayan salt deodorant:
Simply add a concentrated solution of the Himalayan salt to a spray bottle with half a teaspoon of baking soda and essential oils of your choice. Essential oils with a fragrance like lemongrass oil and rose oil work best because they make you smell great along with eliminating the natural body odor.
Reduces Oiliness on Skin
The Himalayan salt solution has astringent properties and it works well in absorbing oils from your skin and mattifying it, minimizing the appearance of open pores, and firming up the skin on your face.
For this, you can make a Himalayan salt toner or cleanser. Simply add the solution to a spray bottle or any other common bottle with essential oils of your choice and a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil. Spray the toner on your face once a day or apply with a cotton pad whenever possible. The more concentrated your solution is, the more drying it will be. This is why you must be careful about how much salt you add!
Keeps the Skin Hydrated
Himalayan salt is also much better for keeping your skin hydrated than normal sea salt, which is actually known for absorbing water content in your body and making your skin dehydrated. You can use any of the salt recipes we have mentioned above to reap this benefit, or you can simply add the salt to your everyday food.
Heals the Skin
Other than all of this, Himalayan salt is also great for treating a large number of skin conditions so that you can have soft, supple skin again. So add the salt to your face masks, salt scrubs, baths, toners, or any other skincare method you deem useful!
